(2) The penetration rate is obtained by dividing the total number of wireless customers or total number of active wireless customers by the French population, which is 60,323,400 (60 185 800 according to the July 1999 INSEE census, 131 300 for Mayotte according to the 1997 INSEE census and 6 300 for Saint Pierre et Miquelon).
(3) Net growth figures refer to either: the total number of customers, or the total number of postpaid customers or the total number of active customers.
(4) The total number of active customers refers to the total number of customers having subscribed to a flat-rate package (postpaid customers) and active prepaid customers. (8) Recurring sales in thousands of euros are defined as operators total revenues generated by outgoing and incoming traffic and roaming out (traffic generated by calls made by the operators customers on a foreign network), all voice and data services as well as valued-added services for the quarter and the geographic area under consideration. The revenues used are those invoiced by the operators (customer invoices and revenues related to incoming traffic). Therefore, outstanding bills and repayments to service providers generated by third-party billing are not deducted from recurring sales. Any promotions and discounts granted to customers are deducted from recurring sales. Network revenues do not include the following: connection fees, sales of terminals and roaming in (revenues generated by foreign customers using the French operators network). (9) Average monthly revenue per active customer equals the recurring sales of the quarter (cf. (8)) divided by 3, divided by the average number of active customers ((number of active customers at the end of the previous quarter + number of active customers at the end of the quarter under consideration)/2).

(13) The active numbers of multimedia users is defined as the number of customers (postpaid subscribers or pre-paid cards users) who have used a multimedia service such as Wap, I-Mode, MMS or e-mail (SMS are not included) at least once in the past month, regardless of the support technology (CSD, GPRS, etc.). For e-mail and MMS, only customers having sent an e-mail or MMS during the past month are considered active users.
(14) The number of ported mobile telephone numbers is the number of effective portings (numbers activated by the recipient operator) done during the quarter
