Open Internet turns 10: What’s next?

Past Reflections & Future Paths

What would our digital world look like without net neutrality? What is the value of guaranteeing open Internet in the European Union? What challenges lie ahead in the next decade?
This year, we commemorate 10 years of the Open Internet Regulation, safeguarding net neutrality in the EU. Its adoption was a pivotal achievement in the ongoing effort to maintain an Internet that is open, accessible, and equitable for all.

Thanks to collective efforts, the EU continues to lead the way in safeguarding freedom and innovation on the Internet. At the same time new challenges have arisen with the growing role of digital platforms and AI services in the distribution of content via the Internet.
