Arcep hosting a workshop on the new regulatory framework for an open internet, on 11 May

10 May 2016

In the run-up to the adoption of European regulations on the open internet (EU Regulations 2015/2120 adopted on 25 November 2015), Arcep has invited stakeholders to a meeting on 11 May 2016, to discuss the issues surrounding this new regulatory framework.

The Body of European Regulators of Electronic Communications (BEREC) will be holding a public consultation in the near future on the guidelines for implementing these regulations, to ensure that they are adopted in a consistent fashion across the European Union. The workshop being hosted by Arcep on 11 May is therefore geared to gaining a deeper understanding of stakeholders’ needs and expectations, and of the issues at hand for all market players in France, and to relay them to BEREC if warranted.

The diversity of stakeholders invited to the workshop – citizen and consumer associations, trade associations, internet service providers, content and application providers, public authorities, equipment suppliers, independent technical and legal experts – reflects the diversity of interests bound up with the open internet issue.

This discussion-centric meeting will give stakeholders an opportunity to share their questions and concerns with Arcep over the rules of application for these regulations, and to indicate any additional details that would be useful to include in the guidelines.

Beyond this workshop, Arcep invites all interested parties to take part in the public consultation on the topic that BEREC will be launching in early June, with a view to publishing its guidelines in late August 2016.
